His Secret: Isabel Lucero

Oh my god, this book wasn't at ALL what I was expecting. But it truly was silly of me to second guess Isabel Lucero. She always gets it just right.

Before I write anything else, you need to know this book has cheating in it. But not between the two mcs, and honestly, even if it was technically cheating... I'm not gonna count it. Books with cheating are always hit or miss for me, but Matías and Adrian are legit soulmates, and you can't fight fate. Or me, cause this is the hill I'm gonna die on.

Matías and Adrian meet in college. They have a quick but passionate secret affair. They can't be out because Adrian is very firmly (thanks to his parents) in the closet. THINGS HAPPEN. Eight years later, they cross paths again, and it becomes VERY serious, very quickly.

I loved the hell out of this book. I liked both characters equally, and that's rare for me. I usually like one more than the other. But I liked both Matías and Adrian. I loved seeing their happily ever after, hard won as it was.

Lucero never lets me down. She's a wonderful storyteller, and HIS SECRET was such a lovely, unexpected, heartbreakingly good surprise. I'll continue to read what she writes and be quite happy with the situation.

HIS SECRET is out October 7th. If you're looking for a book filled with second chances, big love, soulmates, "love of my life"/"loss of my life", heartbreak, voyeurism/exhibitionism, cheating *not between mcs*, not strictly vanilla, serious feelings AND excellent storytelling... don't sleep on this one.
