What Would It Cost? : Syn Blackrose
Syn Blackrose has a way of making me enjoy books that I lovingly call "Shann books" - dark and twisty and messy, just the way my book bestie Shann likes 'em. That vibe is usually not for me.
That being said WHAT WOULD IT COST? is messy and won't be for everyone. Even I left the end of the book feeling a bit icked out over Ethan's whole self. Was the sex/spicy scenes hot? Yes, especially if you love a manipulative, domineering asshole that throws "good boys" around, fucks like a machine, and likes to humiliate. I hated it and enjoyed it in equal measure.
I feel like, as much as I enjoyed the story, it's left me existing in a bit of a dark place where people with no empathy and too much money have way too much power - and that feels a little too close to home with every doom scroll.
Again, this story won't be for everyone. But if you enjoy DARK ROMANCE this very well may be for you. Read all Syn's stuff too, because the stories seem to be getting darker as they progress.
The book kept me turning the pages, wanting to see what would happen next... because I certainly couldn't predict anything. The writing was so good it felt like I was there, and at times had me turning my head to avoid what was happening. But again, I kept reading.
What Would It Cost? was a reminder to myself that I am not as cool or as bad ass as all my boos out there living for DARK ROMANCES. I need to go find the fluffiest softest romance ever to balance out my brain. I signed up for the experience, and Syn delivered, as she always does.
• psychotic MC (for real, no empathy or feels)
• big time manipulation
• humiliation, violence, and control
• toxic behavior
• there's a 🔥 corset scene
• spanking and dirty talk
