Heart: Jesse H Reign
Jesse H Reign is some sort of high priestess sorcerer. A witch. A word witch. This story isn't like her usual books, but it's still a Jesse book. It still feels sprawling and and leaves you feeling like you've just EXPERIENCED something.
This is fast burn feelings and slow burn sex. This is connection and disassociation and realization. This is acknowledging when you've fucked up and trying to make it right and it's also a little self destruction mental angst. It's enormous feelings and mcs that feel unreal and also starkly real, all at once.
What left me reeling more than anything else was the foreboding sense of DREAD. I felt like something ominous was gonna drag me to wherever Lennon was and I did NOT want to go there. Leave me in the light of sunrise with Connor, truly. Is that sense of foreboding bad? NO. Because I trust Jesse to leave me at an HEA, and thank gods she did.
Lennon and Connor were fantastic. The side characters were intriguing and kept me turning the page. The relationship felt like the tension of when you realize you LIKE someone and lose all common sense and sense of self. Lots of looks and stolen glances and soft thoughts. The spice: so good y'all. But it does take awhile to get there. Worth the wait though.
I keep typing and deleting the rest of this review. I don't want to spoil it AT ALL. It's best going in knowing it's gonna be a slow burn and just let the high priestess take you on the journey.
It's 3am. This story wasn't at all what I was expecting, but simultaneously exactly what I thought it would be. I can't explain that, but it's the truth.
