The Former Fake Boyfriend: Sweet Southern book two: Maya Jean

✨️sighs, still wiping away tears, perfection✨️

I held off reading THE FORMER FAKE BOYFRIEND because I loved The Husband Experience so much... it's definitely one of my favorite reads this year. I knew that when I read TFFB, I would love it just as much. I knew that I would cry, that I would be blown away by the writing, and that I'd wish for unending chapters and yearn for the story to go on forever. I just finished TFFB, and I was absolutely 100% correct.

How do I write a spoiler free review? All I want to do is leave quotes and cry a little more. I want to share all my favorite moments and sigh continuously over how wonderful these characters are.

Trevor works for The Boyfriend Experience as an escort. He gets a job, to be a fake boyfriend during a rehearsal and a wedding. A weekend deal. But when he sees Beau Callahan, his "john", I think he knows this won't be a regular job.

Beau is a farmer. He's big and broad, and not just for farming. He carries everything for everyone. And now, to ease ______, he needs a date for this wedding.

Trevor swoops in, and then the job is done. But the connection doesn't go away.

This is when the story takes off and lots happens. It's an emotional adventure, but not at all for our sake. It's exactly perfect for each of the characters.

I don't think I will ever not think of Trevor & Beau when I smell gardenias. That scene, and the reason Beau plants them, had me absolutely sobbing buckets.

"Yeah. Gardenias are the southern rose... my mama always said they're the flower of love. So, I planted them here to wait for you. I knew you'd come back to me, so I wanted to have this for you...to show you that I was thinking about you the whole time."

These two were made for each other. Their story was sweeping and majestic, but slow and steady, like a blooming flower.

"The taste of his laugh, of his joy, will always be pure heaven to me. His fingers loosely tangle in my shirt, tugging me closer even as I straighten us back to standing. When I pull away, both of our smiles are dopey. We aim our dazed gazes towards the camera, with our bodies still turned toward one another. Like our bodies are sunflowers searching for the sun, but instead finding one another."

I absolutely 100% recommend this story. You'll enjoy it more if you read The Husband Experience first. You also want to download the bonus chapter for extra swoons.

Maya Jean was such a wonderful unexpected surprise. She has amazing stories to tell, and she's good at it. Book three, The Remarkable Lover, is out on New Years Day. You have time to catch up!

I am absolutely floored by this wonderful book, and I loved getting to read Trevor and Beau's love story.
