Conflicted: Lark Taylor
Lark Taylor, once again, making me sob uncontrollably from the prologue. Conflicted is everything you'd expect from a demon/angel romance, with the Lark twist that leaves you with a happily ever after and a bucket of tears.
Having read all the previous books, I couldn't really imagine loving Micah and his story, and I'm telling you now, I STAND CORRECTED. I've never met a character with more self-loathing than Micah. I wanted to hug him so much, bless his heart. And the way he thought of himself. About no one ever choosing him. God, it was absolutely brutal.
Micah is the leader of the Seraphim. The angels. He's absolutely brokenhearted [from redacted] and knows that no one will ever choose him. He decides to dedicate his existence to the Seraphim. He will never love again. Micah sees his mate, a demon, in hell when he goes *from book 4* to help rescue Lucky for Dmitri. Not only is he seeing his mate for the first time - he looks exactly like the man he was in unrequited love with. Lark, you're a wonderful moster.
Nox is finally topside from hell. He is ready to live his life. He has his friends and his mayhem for company. He absolutely does not want a mate. Especially his mate. Angels are stuck up pricks who have never suffered or gone through hardship. But this pulling... is leading him somewhere.
These two are so determined to be enemies they can't realize they're exactly what the other needs.
There were so many times throughout this story that I was crying. For both Micah and Nox. It was emotional as hell. For reasons I'm leaving [redacted], I don't want to spoil the story!
This is the kind of enemies to lovers I like. They aren't really enemies. They aren't MEAN to each other. They act like they are, but they really aren't.
And bless them both. Honestly. Nox is something really special. Bravado with a sin-namon roll ✨️get it! Wink wink✨️ center - he sees how important the Seraphim is to Micah, and he is determined to give Micah every happiness. To be his home. I could wax poetic about it, but I don't have the space.
Outside of the incredible romance, we get new characters. Found family vibes like crazy. Storylines that are popping off. Familiar faces. Old deals and new ones. And two characters that are determined to protect each other - no matter what.
I will say this, and I don't think it's a spoiler:
Fuck Emilio.
CONFLICTED comes out September 26th. I loved Micah and Nox and can't wait to see who falls next! Break my heart again, Lark!
